About this RV
Please read all below before inquiring about availability.
Scheduling a test drive is recommended.
Drive and camp in this rare vintage camper van from 1967 (56 years-old). It features a twin bed (only), a propane stovetop, icebox, sink, closet, cafe table, camp gear and a steel & canvas pop-top that allows you to stand up and get fresh air in the camper!
The CampWagon is also ideal for use by photographers and as a fun backdrop for special events. Film, photography and event rates differ. Please inquire.
It is an automatic, V8 318, 3-speed, 727 transmission and has drum brakes and manual steering. Nothing is power assisted. Its 3rd gear will take you to a maximum cruising speed of 60 mph on flat ground, so the van is NOT suited for highway driving. It is also not suitable for passengers other than the driver and passenger. The rear seats (1967) do not have safety belts. The front passenger compartment has room for two adults, and provides lap belts for safety and an AM radio for fun. The van can connect to standard campsite electrical hookups using a provided extension cord, powering interior lights and functional outlets. There is no water hookup, but a small reservoir container may be filled to supply the camp sink.
NOTE: This van is best suited for nearby destination camping and not long road trips as it moves more slowly and consumes more fuel than modern vehicles. The vintage technology requires caution, alertness and consideration while driving. We prefer it be used in Northwest Indiana, Northeast Illinois and Southeast Wisconsin ONLY.
This van is not suited for festivals or large event settings. It is not for children passengers. Smoking is not allowed in or near the camper.
Please message us if you would like to come test drive it and see if you would like to drive and camp in this vintage CampWagon for your next adventure! We are available by arrangement for you to come test drive the CampWagon and see if it is the right fit for your trip.
What's included
It is stocked with cooking gear, dining gear, linens, pillows, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, a small freestanding canopy, and a portable propane camp stove. You provide your own personal effects, personal gear, and food.
Enjoy the spaciousness and comfort the great minds of Detroit and Elkhart, Ind. cooperated to build in 1967. Very few of these campers survive and this is one of the best examples in the U.S. and Europe. The camper conversion was done by the Travel Equipment Corp. in Elkhart, Ind. The pop-top canvas was made in Goshen, Ind. The van was manufactured by Dodge in Detroit.
The van sat unused for 35 years in a Wisconsin garage. We purchased it in the spring of 2016. After two years of restoration work that included a new floor, new ceiling, new curtains, new cushions, insulation, upgraded mechanicals, new zippers in the canvas, new tires and much more TLC, this rare CampWagon is yours to experience for once-in-a-lifetime fun.
