We are not a commercial rental outfit. We are a retired couple who rent our van when we are not enjoying it ourselves. We bought a basic cargo van new and had it professionally converted into a self-contained home on wheels. A custom-built kitchen has fridge/freezer; sink with swivel faucet; butcher block countertop; retractable table; ample drawers and cabinets; 2 bench seats/storage units; dimmable lights; ceiling fans; diesel heater; portable propane stove; Laveo dry-flush vacuum toilet. The bedroom has a raised platform bed; full-size memory foam mattress; storage cabinets/shelf; ceiling + wall fans; overhead + bedside reading lights. The "garage" under the bed is a huge, cedar-lined storage space with a heavy duty 50" slide-out easy access tray. Fridge, lights, fans, and water pumps are DC powered by a storage battery, charged while the van is running and via solar panels on the roof; also charged and/or bypassed by connecting a "shore power" plug on the side of the van to any 110-volt wall outlet or 30 amp outlet in a campsite electrical box. AC outlets are powered by a 2000-watt inverter or shore power
Despite a roomy interior, the van's exterior footprint is smaller than most RVs so it can access many remote or urban sites that they cannot. It has a backup camera/reverse warning detector; fits easily in standard parking spaces, extending only slightly beyond most cars. Taller travelers should note that the main cabin ceiling height and the bed-length are both 6’
Our extensive personal experience driving and living in the van around the U.S. and Canada - in all seasons and road conditions/surfaces -- has allowed us to test and improve what we have come to see as the most important features for making traveling and living in it as easy and enjoyable as possible . As a result, we have compiled a store of insights and tips for safe, affordable, and fun adventures, which we look forward to sharing with you as you embark upon your own campervan journey
Kitchen: Fully equipped with pots and pans; plates; bowls; cups; cutlery; cooking utensils; cutting board; oven mitts; napkins, paper towels; spare propane tanks for portable stove; full diesel tank for heater; fire extinguisher; electric toaster; dishwashing and cleaning supplies; food storage cannisters; portable fan/charging cable.
Bedroom: Fresh linens; mattress cover; blankets.
Campsite items: 2 folding canvas chairs; 2 collapsible side tables; tarp; vinyl tablecloth/clips for picnic table; table lamps; flashlight.
Campfire items: Poker; bellows; axe/wood saw,/canvas log carrier [for sites that allow foraging for dead/fallen wood]; telescoping roasting forks.
Misc: Folding step/footstool for sliding-door access and extra seating; telescoping collapsible stool for interior or exterior use; extension cord/adapters for shore-power connection; magnetic privacy screens for windows/windshield; privacy curtain between cab and main cabin; magnetic noise-dampening/blackout covers for ceiling fan openings.
The van is an ideal way to travel to see friends and relatives; visit bucket-list sites/events/attractions; and, of course, for overnight or more extended stays in any of the many national, state, and local parks, forests, monuments, recreation areas, historic sites, etc. Many of these (in Pennsylvania and neighboring states) can be reached within a few hours drive from our base just outside Philadelphia. In addition to savings on car rental and accommodation costs while traveling, we have equipped it with safety features for travel with our dog, which results in significant further savings in boarding/dog-sitting expenses. We have used the van to great advantage in all of these ways and are happy to offer itinerary and other trip-planning suggestions.
In addition to the standard conditions for all rentals thru Outdoorsy, the following rules apply:
> Rentals are limited to a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 14 days
> An outline of travel plans/itinerary must be submitted prior to rental
> The van is designed to accommodate 2 travelers. No seatbelts are installed in the rear of the van, so it is unsafe for passengers to ride there
> A small/medium sized dog can travel safely in the main cabin with an appropriate harness

We are a retired couple -- university professor and antique china restorer/studio artist. With our dog, Remy, we travel extensively in our van, to see daughters in Santa Fe, NM and Fruita, CO; visit art museums and musical performance/recording shrines; and, hike in as many National and State Parks, Monuments, and Forests as our ageing knees will allow. Too many memorable trips to pick just one favorite, but most recent stand-out is a 10 day tour of Newfoundland, camping in its many national and provincial parks/World Heritage Sites; taking in its multitude of geological, historical, cultural, and wildlife wonders; and, most memorably, marveling at the massive icebergs floating just off the hundreds of miles of spectacular coastal cliffs and shorelines.
