Nestled in the heart of Indiana, Pokagon State Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational opportunities, making it an ideal destination for RV camping. Founded in 1925, the park boasts a rich cultural heritage, having once been the home of the Potawatomi Native American tribe. The park’s name pays homage to Leopold Pokagon, the last chief of the Potawatomi before their forced removal in the 19th century. The park’s most distinctive feature is Lake James, a 28-acre man-made lake created in 1929. The lake is fed by snowmelt and rainwater, and its depth remains consistent throughout the year, providing a perfect spot for swimming, boating, and fishing. The park’s unique topography, characterized by rolling hills, wetlands, and forests, is the result of glacial activity that occurred thousands of years ago.
