If you’re coming from Maryland you can reach the park by taking Route 611. On the other hand if you’re coming from Virginia you can access the park via Route 175. It’s worth mentioning that there are some restrictions on the size of vehicles allowed in the park. On the Maryland side of Assateague Island vehicles that are longer than 27 feet or wider than 8 feet are not allowed. However on the Virginia side there are no specific restrictions in terms of vehicle size. Traveling in your own vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the park at your own pace and visit various places of interest such as the beach campground and visitor center.
